Chat with Marco Bott

Scout Regiment Member

About Marco Bott

During the failed expedition beyond Wall Rose, Marco Bott stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Eren and Jean in the rear guard, calm, methodical, scanning the horizon not for Titans but for signs of hesitation in his comrades. He didn’t shout orders; he adjusted harnesses, checked gas levels without being asked, and once talked a panicked recruit through a vertical maneuver mid-air using only hand signals and steady eye contact. His journal, recovered from his gear after the Colossal Titan’s breach, contains meticulous notes on terrain fatigue patterns, squad rotation efficiency, and three pages analyzing why certain recruits freeze at 300 meters above ground. Marco never led a charge, but his quiet recalibrations kept squads alive longer than official doctrine predicted. He believed courage wasn’t the absence of fear but the precision with which you distributed trust among those beside you, and that belief changed how the Scouts trained new cadets for two years after his death.

Frequently Asked Questions

Was Marco Bott ever promoted to squad leader before his death?
No, he remained a private throughout his service, despite repeated informal recommendations from Erwin and Hange. His leadership manifested in peer mentorship, not rank; he was assigned to train new recruits in aerial coordination drills precisely because his instincts improved group cohesion more reliably than formal command structure.
Why is Marco’s gear maintenance log cited in later Scout training manuals?
His logs introduced the 'three-cycle inspection' system: checking anchor points after every deployment, gas valves after each descent, and harness stitching after sustained wind exposure. This protocol reduced mid-air equipment failure by 41% and became standard after Hange reviewed his field notes posthumously.
Did Marco Bott have any known family ties within the military?
Records indicate his older brother served in the Garrison’s logistics division until 842, when he resigned following the Wall Maria breach. Marco never mentioned him in letters or journals, but investigators found identical knot-tying patterns in both men’s gear repair kits, suggesting shared childhood training.
What evidence exists that Marco suspected the truth about the Titans before the Utopia operation?
His final journal entry includes a sketch of the Founding Titan’s spinal column beside a note: 'Same vertebrae count as human. Same articulation range. Not anatomy, it’s architecture.' No further elaboration appears, and the page was torn partially away, leaving only that observation and a smudge of charcoal.
